During the fall, weather can start to become unpredictable. This means that many events start to head in doors. Sometimes this is planned in advanced, and sometimes, when storms or inclement weather hits, the change has to happen in a hurry. Whatever your circumstances, it is extremely feasible to plan a great party in small spaces. All you need is a little know-how to transform your small space into the perfect venue.
The first trick to getting the most out of your space is to remove all bulky furniture. This includes, couches, chairs, and tables. You also need to clear out any items that create clutter, such as boxes. In order to maximize your space, you need to gain every square inch possible.
If you are having a sit down event, the best place to set up your tables and chairs is in the largest space of your home. In most cases, this is NOT the kitchen or dinning area, but the family room. Bring in your tables and chairs, and cover them with your linens and centerpieces. Choose the set-up the work best with your space, whether that is one long table or several smaller tables.
If you aren’t having a sit down event, designate one particular area of the room as the food corner. Have one table set up for food and another for drinks. If you’re really tight on space, or don’t want to clutter the room with a table, one great idea is to empty out any bookcases and use the shelves to hold your food and drink.
Important to note: when you are working with a small space, the only tables that you should use in your largest room should be for food and drink. Any other things that would normally be put on tables (such as for favors or gifts) should be stored in another room. This will help prevent any potential bottlenecks.
Which leads us to our second tip. You will want to take advantage of all your other spaces. Bedrooms can become coat closets. Offices, living rooms, or libraries can be turned into sitting rooms. You can even use your garage as a great place to hold an overflow of people. If weather permits, open up any balconies or patios to add additional space.
The third and final tip is to be well organized. Make sure that the food is prepared beforehand and ready to put out on the tables. Only serve one type of food at a time in order to prevent a continuous crowd at the food table. And make sure that there is an easily accessible wastebasket where people can throw away their trash. This will remove a lot of potential clutter from the room.
With a little thought and organization, you can use any space, large or small, for entertaining.
